SecDaemons Cares

The Security Daemon's mission is to bring information security to the forefront of innovation and development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of our mission. We embrace diversity and equality in building our team from a variety of experiences, backgrounds, and skills.

Since our founding, diversity has remained a core value of both DePaul University and the Security Daemons. We aim to foster a culture where people across differences of ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identitiy, age, abilities, religion, socioeconomic background and veteran status can unite under our passion for information security.

DEI Statement

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are integral to our mission and our everyday lives. Diversity includes characteristics of ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, abilities, socioeconomic background, and veteran status, in addition to differences in backgrounds, experiences, values, beliefs and ideas. Embracing our differences makes us better leaders, students, researchers, educators, and individuals. These values are intertwined within our practices, events, and outreach.

Equity is instrinsic to the Security Daemons as we provide fair and equal access to opportunities and resources for all our members. In sustaining and building an atomsphere where equity and respect are prioritized, we create a caring and successful team where we attract and retain people that are passionate about cybersecurity and feel comfortable contributing their unique skills, ideas, perspectives, and experiences.

Inclusivity requires mutual respect, acknowledgement, and acceptance of our differences. Being inclusive enables us to draw out our strengths as researchers, learners, and students to unify as one cohesive body. As our values and mission are intertwined, we foster a community where every member of the Security Daemons feels supported and inspired in our common pursuit of security.

Land Acknowledgement

We recognize that the work of the Security Daemons takes place on Indigenous lands and in Indigenous spaces that over 100 tribal nations call home. Our organization resides on the ancestral lands of the Potawatomi, Ojibew, and Odawa nations who signed the Treaty of Chicago in 1821 and in 1833. We extend our respect to all of them, including the Ho-Chunk, Myaamia, Menominee, Illinois Confederacy, and Peoria people who also maintained relationships with this land. In the spirt of Saint Vincent de Paul, we reaffirm our commitment to help make our community a more equitable space for all.
